Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and we would like to take this opportunity to
give thanks for the simple freedoms we enjoy, and for our extended
family who work so hard to make our home grown enterprise a prosperous
one, and for all of you who support it and enjoy the health benefits of
this truly remarkable olive oil.  We wish you all a wonderful holiday
season and all the best in the coming new year.  We offer our prayers
for peace and understanding in the world, and to all victims of war and
oppression.
 
Winter Solstice is rapidly approaching, and the fruit is ripening up
quite nicely.  We should be ready to harvest during the first week of
December if its not too muddy from the rain.  We have really stepped up
our volume from web sales this year, and as a result have already SOLD
OUT of Manzanillo and Ascolano, and so won't be able to put out any more
sampler packs for a while.  BUT we still have plenty of all three
Mission varietals on reserve, so don't be shy!

CCOF Certified Organic Mission Reserve - is supremely unique in its
color, aroma and flavor. With its flowery aroma, nutty taste and dark
creamy viscosity, this oil will taunt you with distinguished flavor that

Wild Mission - varies from barrel to barrel and is usually buttery in

    Olive Oil and Skin Care
**************************************

Here at Homegrown Enterprises we use nothing but olive oil on our skin. 
Sometimes we use it with beeswax as a salve, other times with aloe vera,
but mostly just plain or infused with vital herbs from the garden and
often with essential oils for fragrance and aromatherapy.  We knew it
was best for our skin so it was not surprising when we read the articles
in the California Olive Oil News
(http://www.oliveoilsource.com/olivenews.htm) explaining the benefits of
eating and lathering in olive oil.  A study out of the University of
Melbourne suggests that a high intake of vegetables, legumes and olive
oil appeared to be protective against sun damage.  Another article
states that the anti-oxidant activity of polyphenols found in olive oil
proves beneficial to skin damage and photoprotection.  

	"Polyphenolic components of olive oil have been compared to traditional
	antioxidants, such as tocopherols, used by the cosmetic and pharma-
	ceutical industry to prevent skin damage: Results show polyphenols as 
	having the highest activity as radical scavengers."

Patricia Reaney states in her article entitled 
"Olive Oil May Fight Colon Cancer"
	
	"Japanese scientists also claim that virgin olive oil applied 
	to the skin after sunbathing could protect against skin cancer 
	by slowing tumor growth."
