Summer Solstice is nearly upon us, and the fruit is setting on the
trees, and we hope it's going to be a bumper crop.  This is sort of
down time in the business of processing olive oil, since harvest starts

    Olive Oil and Skin Care

    Here at Homegrown Enterprises we use nothing but olive oil on our
skin.  Sometimes we use it with beeswax as a salve, other times with
aloe vera, but mostly just plain or infused with vital herbs from the
garden and often with essential oils for fragrance and aromatherapy.  We
knew it was best for our skin so it was not surprising when we read the
articles in The California Olive Oil News
(http://www.oliveoilsource.com/olivenews.htm)  explaining the benefits
of eating and lathering in olive oil.  A study out of the University of
Melbourne suggests that a high intake of vegetables, legumes and olive
oil appeared to be protective against sun damage.  Another article
states that the anti-oxidant activity of polyphenols found in olive oil
proves beneficial to skin damage and photoprotection.
 
	"Polyphenolic components of olive oil have been compared to traditional
	antioxidants, such as tocopherols, used by the cosmetic and
	pharmaceutical 	industry to prevent skin damage: Results show 
	polyphenols as having the highest activity as radical scavengers."

Patricia Reaney states in her article entitled "Olive Oil May Fight
Colon Cancer"
	
	"Japanese scientists also claim that virgin olive oil applied 
	to the skin after sunbathing could protect against skin cancer 
	by slowing tumor growth."

   Introducing Olive Oil Essentials

with a variety of herbs from our gardens blended with beeswax

Ascolano - has a green almost grassy flavor, and is our most versatile
oil.  Smooth, not overpowering, it is great for dipping, drizzling,
salads, pastas, and pestos.

Manzanillo - has a good fruity taste that goes well on toast or with
sweet things like maple syrup or honey. Try it as a butter substitute on
oatmeal, pancakes or french toast.

CCOF Certified Organic Mission - has a fruity flavor with a strong
peppery finish. It received a Bronze Medal at the Los Angeles County
Fair - Olive Oil of the Americas 2000. 

CCOF Certified Organic Mission Reserve - is supremely unique in its
color, aroma and flavor. With its flowery aroma, nutty taste and dark
creamy viscosity, this oil will taunt you with distinguished flavor that
is excellent for sauces, especially eggplant, zuccini, and tomato
dishes.

Wild Mission - varies from barrel to barrel and is usually buttery in
flavor and sometimes has a bit of a peppery taste to finish it off. This
